Flying on Standby – The Hansen Family

Featured Family: The Hansen Family

We are a family of 4 with twin sons that are 9. We live in the Seattle Area and Brett and Tami have been married going on 16 years! We have Gavin in private school in Seattle. It is the only Dyslexic school in the state and one of the few in the nation and we are in love! Carter is in public school in Federal Way, still trying to find the right fit for him. Tami works in the Legal Department at T-Mobile in Bellevue. She has been there for 3 ½ years and enjoyed a remote year in Dallas last year. Brett works at Delta and owns his own construction company. Brett’s work at Delta is only part-time so that we can have flight benefits. We are an extremely busy family that loves family, music and travel. We aim to go on 5-7 week long international adventures as well as lots of long weekend domestic trips throughout each year. When traveling we put our house up on Airbnb to rent out and help fund our travels. Tami’s dream is to take a work remote year and live in Argentina for the boys’ freshman year. Brett’s schedule is a little more fixed, so we still have some details to iron out.

What is so great about the way we travel, is there is little planning. We have been to most of the airport hubs in the world and are very familiar with transportation once we get to a foreign country. So we can do things like planning our trip to China that we didn’t make it on the flight (we fly standby) and 15 min later boarding the flight to Amsterdam. Our boys have been traveling like this since they were 4 so, they are the best travelers around! We usually are traveling with just a backpack on our backs and ready for adventure!

We loved hearing about people’s adventures during the summit last year and sharing ours. We learned that there are all sorts of ways to fit travel into your lifestyle and loved the friendships we made. We are Latin American’s at heart so we are sooo looking forward to being in Mexico for the week of Day of the Dead. Both Brett and Tami are fluent in Spanish and love the Latin culture. We are also looking forward to re-connecting with friends at this year’s summit.
