Choose Your Own Adventure

Children will have the option of choosing their own adventures throughout the weekend. Each adventure will last for approximately one hour. There will be a sign-up sheet each morning for children to decide what they would like to learn about that day. Each session will be limited to 10 participants and will be led by a local volunteer.

We are always open to your ideas so if you or your child would like to see something offered, let us know and we will do our best to provide the opportunity. If you have an idea for a session you would like to lead with the kids, let us know!

What kinds of things can you expect for our Choose Your Own Adventure workshops? We are working on a lot of exciting sessions. Some of the sessions may include, but are not limited to the following:

MOVEMENT

Field Games

Soccer! Ultimate Frisbee! Kick Ball! Flag Football! Whatever your desire, our volunteers can make it happen.

Kids Yoga

Let’s stretch and move and have some yoga fun!

Playground Outing

Do you feel like a low-key afternoon at the playground? Join a volunteer on a trip to Lakawana Park- just a few minutes walk from the Penticton Lakeside Resort. The park features a couple fun playground structures and a small spray park.

Self Defense Training

Join this small group in discussion and training for Self Defense. Explore how attitude, posture, and self-confidence add to your personal safety and well being. Demo popular martial arts forms that can aid in your Self Defense journey.

Improv

Join a group of friends as we play games focusing on the art of making stuff up on the spot. Let your imagination run wild as you create everything from nothing!

Dance

“A Journey Through Time” A blindfolded dance that will take you around the world on a unique journey through time and space. With a world music collection from all over to guide our journey and inspire our dance.

MUSIC

Musical Jam Circle

Do you enjoy playing music with new friends? Jamming on your favourite tunes, and learning some new ones at the same time? Join this laid back and volunteer facilitated circle, and get ready to have some fun with your instrument!

Beginner/Intermediate Instrumentation

Have you always wanted to learn to play the Guitar or Ukulele? Or do you already play an instrument but would like to brush up on your skills? Or would you simply like to learn a new song on your instrument of choice? This workshop is for you!

Traditional African Rhythms

Learn a Traditional African Rhythm on the Djembe. All levels of rhythmic skill (even beginner drummers!) are welcome to join this workshop and enjoy the fun process of learning traditional polyrhythms, and the history and culture behind them.

Songwriting

Come learn the art of songwriting with Emily Pearce. We’ll cover the basics of melody and lyric writing (and how to tie the two together), chord progressions, and how to organize a song into verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, etc. You’ll get hands-on practice and have lots of fun, as we write a new song together.

Silly Songs

Come shake your sillies out and sing some silly songs that are sure to get your cheeks to hurt from smiling so hard!

International Folk Songs

Learn to sing fun songs from around the world! Explore different languages, genres, and choral arrangements.

CULTURE

International Games

Learn different games played by children around the world, and share the ones you know!

How To Henna

Learn the basics of henna application, short history behind Mehndi, and the common shapes and designs used in this ancient art form.

Tour SS Sicamous

Just a 10-minute walk along the beach from the Lakeside Resort is the SS Sicamous- the largest surviving stern-wheeler in Canada. Join us for a tour of the museum and a glimpse into a unique part of the Okanagan’s history and heritage.

Tour Penticton Art Gallery

Join us on a tour the nearby Art Gallery. A place of inquiry, interest and enjoyment, the Penticton Art Gallery presents contemporary and historical exhibitions of both established and emerging artists. Current exhibits focus on First Nation Issues and display a crucial part of our Canadian history and present day life.

Learn to sing fun songs from around the world! Explore different languages, genres, and choral arrangements.

TECHNOLOGY

Minecraft & Coding

Led by Lan and Kayden (two of our children attendees) we’ll learn some new coding tricks in Minecraft. If you have a fun Minecraft tip or trick this is the time to share it with your friends!

Digital Scavenger Hunt

Join a group of friends in an exploration searching for photo op’s in this fun adventure game suited for both photography enthusiasts and treasure hunters alike.

Geo Cache Penticton

Join the world’s largest treasure hunt and search for caches near the Penticton Lakeside Resort! Want to help make our own, Family Adventure Summit Geocache?  Learn how to do so at the additional: Hide a Geocache workshop.

OUTDOORS

Nature Walk

Explore the breathtaking scenery and uniquely Okanagan flora and fauna found just a few minutes walk from the Penticton Lakeside Resort at the Esplanade Trail Network.  A volunteer will guide the way with plenty of local knowledge to share about the natural ecosystem.

Sand Castle Building

Spend the afternoon being creative and building in the sand. Optional Sand Castle Challenge for those who are up for the task!

Sketchbooks for Kids with Animator and Illustrator Drew Gilbert

What better way to know you are truly seeing the world during your travels is to actually sit down and document what you see in a sketchbook? Join National Geographic Traveler of the Year, Drew Gilbert in showing kids how to have fun looking around and putting what they see down on paper. To participate, you will need a sketchbook and whatever your child’s favorite drawing tool may be.

Fun with Face Paint

For those who like to paint faces- and those who like to have their face painted!! A perfect match- spend some time together creating and receiving.

Cosplay Share

A space to show off your character and costume, to discuss your favorite shows, and share your experiences and costume tips.

Cosplay Face Paint: How To

Come and learn face-painting skills from a professional body painter who happens to have a couple great characters up her sleeve.

Knitting & Crocheting

Learn the basic stitches and get started on an easy project, or get tips on your project in process- learn advanced stitches and fun new patterns.

Create! Multi Day Project

This group is for individuals who want to collaborate in a small group throughout the weekend to create a presentation based on their own passions and imagination. Write a song together! Choreograph a dance! Shorts Stories! Poetry! Skits! Photography Slide Show! Stop Motion! The sky is the limit…

Open Art Studio

The Art Studio will also be open at this time for you to enjoy, relax and be artful. High-quality art supplies will be at your fingertips to explore and create with.

Lego Challenge

For all the Master Builders out there. Come get creative and challenge your imagination during this fun game with new friends!
